When news broke last year that the MCH Group, owners of Art Basel and Art Basel Miami Beach, bought a 60% stake in ART HK, a collector commented that Filipino artists would have to get serious and stop playing around....Next year, ART HK will be no longer. It will be rebranded the Art Basel show in Asia, and organizers are thinking of scheduling the fair between Art Basel, held in June, and Art Basel Miami Beach, held in December. (Initially, there was talk that the MCH Group would move ART HK to February, a few weeks after Art Stage Singapore.) A new selection committee will also be in charge of assessing applications. Mr. Renfrew said that structure was needed among all three fairs and consultation was ongoing. Despite these changes, ART HK’s two-fold objective remains the same: to present the very best of contemporary and modern art from international blue-chip institutions, and to provide a venue for emerging galleries and artists. . . .
